In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for the dedication of its employees, the municipality celebrated by awarding long-service certificates during the General Council Meeting held on 11 March. The staff members were recognised for the years of service they have devoted to the municipality and the residents of Prince Albert in their valuable roles in delivering essential services.

Mr Nicolaas Tala, General Worker – Parks and Recreation, received recognition for his 35 years of service in the municipality. Mr Tala says he enjoys his work and is always treated with great respect by his colleagues. “They call me uncle,” he says, his appreciation clearly visible in his broad smile. For him, it is a joy to help keep Prince Albert clean and tidy.

Selwyn Goliath, Supervisor/Driver – Sanitation and Network Maintenance, and Christiaan Minnaar, Senior Water Process Controller, both received recognition for 20 years of service. Nicole Wicomb, Administrator: Technical Support, received her certificate for 15 years of service.

Team triumph at ISMAR12

The Prince Albert Municipality proudly celebrates our water management team, for securing first prize for the best poster presentation for a scientific professional at the 12th International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge (ISMAR12). Jan Myburgh from AGES presented the poster at the Symposium held in Stellenbosch from 28 April to 2 May 2025, where 170 delegates from 30 countries gathered under the theme “From Theory to Implementation and Operation.” Supported by the IAH, ASCE, and UNESCO, ISMAR12 highlighted our innovative approach to water security.

First ECSA-Registered professional Engineering Technologist

The Prince Albert Municipality proudly celebrates a significant achievement within its Technical Services Department. On 24 April 2025, Mr Ashley America, a senior managerial official, became the only registered Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) in the Category B-local municipalities within the Central Karoo District. This milestone, recognised by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) under the Engineering Profession Act, 2000 (Act 46 of 2000), underscores the municipality’s commitment to enhancing the technical capacity and professionalism of its staff.
