The pre-paid water meter project is an initiative to replace traditional water meters with pre-payment type water meters, which will help the customer to monitor and manage their water usage daily and save them money. What are pre-paid meters, and how do they work?

Pre-paid water meters are digital devices that accurately measure

and monitor water usage, just like electricity meters. They help residents to manage usage of water better. The customer purchases water units in advance, and once the units are finished, the customer must top-up.

How do I purchase water units?

Once your meter has been installed you will be provided with the meter number and the keypad digital device which will be used to enter all the tokens of pre-paid water units that has been purchased. Units can be purchased from online vendors like Prepaid24 (electricity.co.za), local vendors like Spar, Usave, the Municipality, as well as banking apps.

How do I load my units on the meter?

Once you have purchased the units, you must load the digits on your digital keypad. The meter will show ACCEPTED, then the units will reflect on your keypad screen.
